Autumn’s Post

Thomas Pogge speaks about in his lecture, the many disparities in the current Global justice system, and ways we can ensure that the basic human rights and necessities are reflected and granted to people in each country in an equally sustainable way. His argument is that there are three steps, stating that one: under the present rules of the world economy, the current rights of most people remain foreseeably unfulfilled (7:32) , that two: It’s foreseeable that most of this human rights deficit would be reasonable avoidable with an alternative design of these supranational rules(7:38), and three that the present rules of the world economy foreseeably produce massive human rights deficits and are therefore extremely unjust.(7:50). His views support the standpoint that we are all complicit in the way the system effects each other, in the agreements and systems we create, and it is in our actions as a united society, to ensure the systems we put in place are not conflicting or constraining to the ways that basic necessities are granted to other people, or other countries, and also that they don’t directly interfere or cause a depravation in the basic human rights of anyone else. He also argues our responsibility for the mass disparities, and that we can fix the injustices as a global unit, at the state level, and the effects that tariffs, businesses, and international laws all contribute to poverty, hunger, and substandard living conditions by the current supranational institutional architechure which directly influences the poor and vulnerable citizens in the less developed countries, and works indirectly to influence the national institutional schemes of the various less developed countries.. His argument is supported by data driven research over a period of 25 years. He resolves the injustices caused by the way we contribute by our complacency, giving us the visuals of where we would be, were we to make those changes.

1.What are some ways we can contribute to ensuring the basic human rights of others?

2. How does the lack of human rights in other countries effect you?
