Define poverty and critique various conceptualizations of who are the poor in the U.S.?
Describe the difference between “juvenilization of poverty & feminization of poverty.” Examine the causes of poverty and assess the validity of a theory that either focuses on the individual, or at structural reasons for poverty.
The Department of Health and Human Services set the poverty guidelines based on the Census Bureau Threshold but they do not reflect the cost of living from state to state in the U.S. What do you think about the fact that cost of living is not considered when creating these guidelines? Is the threshold benefit or negatively affect the applicants? Explain.
Are there possessions that you consider necessities but that other people may view as nonessential? Explain. Define the role of social workers who work with people in poverty.
Do you think more can be done to help people living in poverty? What should we do on the national, community and individual level? Provide an example for each.
