Journal Entry #4: Evictions and Inequality: In our last two entries, you will take a slightly different approach to interpreting the core texts for each unit. While still connecting the core text to United States media that you might come into contact with, you will also be asked to interpret and analyze the texts in more detail. For Entry #4, please address the following two prompts:
Depictions of poverty in the media are pervasive. How do the depictions of poverty and eviction in the text by Desmond compare to those you have seen in the media? Be specific in identifying where and what type of media depictions of poverty you have seen elsewhere as you make your comparison to the text.
Experts that analyze the dynamics of poverty often make the following claim: “it is expensive to be poor.” Bring forward an example from the text by Desmond that illustrates this and describe how and why.
