Assignment Directions
Assignment Overview:
Purpose: Provide guided practice for important instructional leadership skills such as planning effective instructional conferences and providing useful instructional feedback.
This is an extension of Discussion 2. Both you and your selected volunteer will need to role-play the instructional conference.
Steps:
For this short role-playing, you assume the role of Assistant Principal Richey.
Solicit a volunteer to assume the role of Teacher Otuna. Preferably, you can identify a teacher colleague to volunteer. If not, a spouse or friend will suffice.
Provide the attached fact sheet to the volunteer.
Plan the conference with Otuna, creating an outline of your plan (submit the outline). Use the facts from Discussion 2 to plan your conference.
Role-play the conference for approximately 10-15 minutes. I suggest videotaping it (for your reflection purposes).
Develop and submit the written refection.
Deliverables (submitted on the template):
Outline (In effect, this is your plan for the conference)
Reflection
Were you able to follow and implement your plan?
Which skills do you think you displayed?
Which skills need to improve?
Anything surprising?
What feedback do you receive from your volunteer?
Suggestions:
(1) Use the McEwan text pp 87-90 for planning ideas.
(2) I will be looking for content from several of these Course Den resources
(3) Make sure you identify the important and reflective questions you will ask to Otuna. (see McEwan’s text)
(4) Make sure your outline includes a focus for the current and next (future) steps.
(5) Using McEwan’s Indicator’s 5.1-5.7 is strongly recommended for both the outline (plan) and the reflection.
