Instructions
This assignment is designed to help you think about how the learning in this unit can apply to your future career. You should complete the embedded Careers Module 4 before attempting this assignment. It should be approached as if you are preparing and applying for a job in the sustainable energy sector. The assessment consists of two parts:
A cover letter in response to specific selection criteria from a job advertisement. (2 pages, no more than 1.5 spaced)
A written reflection relating the Engineers Australia competencies to your development and learning in this unit. (300 words)
Part 1: Addressing Selection Criteria
A (fictitious) job listing for a graduate environmental engineer has been provided for you, you can access it here: Sustainability Inc Job Listing. Your task is to write a statement addressing your suitability for the role demonstrating persuasive evidence that you can fulfil the selection criteria for the position. Whilst you should address all selection criteria, you should pay specific attention to those relating to communicating and working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (using information from your annotated bibliography), and your knowledge in sustainability (using your learning in this unit). Note that while the job is fictitious, your response should be genuine based on your current skills, experience and capabilities – you are being evaluated on how well you can identify relevant learnings and articulate these, not on how suitable you are for the job at this stage of your career journey (i.e. you do not need to artificially embellish!).
Engineering Career Readiness: Sustainability & Reflection

Reflect upon how your learning in this unit has helped you develop the EA competencies 1.5, 1.6 and 3.1. You will need to reference specific parts of the competencies (a, b, c etc) and give specific examples as to how your learning (as related to innovation, ethics, sustainability, or cross-cultural communication) has influenced your personal career development in these areas, as well as any impact you feel it may have on your future engineering career, and any knowledge gaps you have identified.
You may find the following reflective framework helpful to structure your report:
What? Describe the event or learning. Include any background or
So What? Why is this important and relevant to you?
Now What? How will this influence you in the future (thinking and behaviour)?
Ensure you have worked through the relevant assessment skills materials in the modules in order to complete this task:
