The windshield/walking survey is an informal way for nurses to assess the health and well-being of a community. It involves driving or walking through the community and observing conditions and trends that affect, or potentially affect, the health of particular populations. Worthwhile information can also be gleaned from internet websites specific to that community. These recorded observations provide background and context in identifying helpful health-related resources, gaps in services, and to create strategies for positive community changes.
In this Discussion, you will perform an abbreviated windshield survey in your own community and share your discoveries with your classmates. Through your discussion, you may find that your community has strengths and weaknesses that you did not know about.

Introduce your community by sharing at least five pictures of your community taken by yourself or acquired from a website that reflect aspects of your community environment.
