- You are expected to include answers to the questions with EViews outputs as required.
- You should submit your coursework with an official cover page, which you can generate and download from your Evision. You may also produce your own cover page, which may include information such as the assignment component number of this coursework, module code, module title, name of the school and date for submission. You should NOT display your name on this cover page and any other pages of your coursework.
- You should choose Times New Roman with a font size of 12 and double spacing to present your work.

FE7066 Coursework – Weighting 70%
This coursework builds on Coursework 001 by applying econometric models to analyse the determinants and behaviour of UK inflation. You will conduct regression analysis, diagnostic tests, and time-series models to evaluate inflation dynamics and draw meaningful conclusions.
Using the same UK inflation dataset (available on Weblearn), you will estimate and evaluate various econometric models, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of inflation trends and their determinants.
All the coursework should be completed using statistical software (EViews, etc)
1. Introduction (10 Marks)
- Briefly summarise findings from Coursework 001, including an explanation of the variables in the dataset, an assessment of their stationarity, and the expected impact of each variable on inflation.
2. Ordinary Least Squares (20 Marks)
- Specify and estimate an OLS model for inflation against all the variables (using growth rates or first differences).
- Interpret coefficient estimates, statistical significance, and goodness-of-fit measures.
3. Model Misspecification Tests (10 Marks)
- Perform two diagnostic tests:
- Heteroscedasticity test (White test and/or Breusch-Pagan test) and,
- Autocorrelation test (Breusch-Godfrey and/or Durbin-Watson).
4. Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Model (25 Marks)
- Specify and estimate a VAR model to capture interdependencies between all the variables.
- Conduct Granger causality tests to assess the predictive power of variables.
- Discuss impulse response functions and forecast error variance decompositions.
5. Cointegration and Error Correction Model (ECM) (25 Marks)
- Identify the most significant variable in your opinion that has impact on inflation, and conduct the Engle-Granger cointegration test between this variable and inflation to check for long-run relationships.
- Using the same variable, specify and estimate an ECM to model short-run and long-run inflation.
- Interpret results, highlighting policy implications.
6. Presentation, Structure, and Referencing (10 Marks)
- Ensure clear report structure, appropriate formatting, and academic referencing.

Tips:
Submission of coursework must be electronically submitted on the Turnitin Assessment System, named ‘Online Submission’, available on FE7066 Weblearn.
I expect your individual report is at a minimum of 900 words and a maximum of 1000 words (including in-text references, but excluding end-text references, tables, figures, and Appendix).
The report will require students to use information from academic literature to demonstrate understanding of major conceptual and practical problems.
As should be obvious from the above, there is a requirement for you to research, collect, present and analyse actual data. Sources of information must be included and referenced in your discussion, as well as the date obtained.
Points and/or arguments presented and made should be substantiated with data/evidence. I am interested in your own views, but it should be clear through the referencing system whether they are personal or evidenced by the views/data of others.
A reference or bibliography should be included using the Harvard system. This at least entails that every reference included in the bibliography is referenced in the main body of the text and that there are no references included in the bibliography that are not mentioned in the main body.
Clarity of expression – please pass through MS Word ’Spelling & Grammar’ or equivalent.
