The process of change is often challenging! According to Barrow et al. (2021) "…almost two-thirds of all change projects fail for many reasons, such as poor planning, unmotivated staff, deficient communication, or excessively frequent changes" (para. 1).
In this assignment, you must identify an issue in your work environment that needs to change. Alternatively, you may use the situation below or create a hypothetical one. The goal of the assignment is for you to apply a change model. Kotter's Eight-Step Plan for Integrating Change in Chapter 3 of Grossman and Valiga (2021) is a solid change model that can walk you through each step of planning change. While it is not necessary to implement the change, in this assignment, you will identify the specific approaches you would take and how you would evaluate the effectiveness of the change. The video about Kotter's model may be helpful to you! Simply click on the blue underlined text in the previous sentence.
Situation: You notice a conflict between millennial nurses (born between 1981 and 1996) and Generation X nurses (born between 1965 and 1980) in your work setting. While there is no outright hostility, an undercurrent seems to be preventing effective teamwork, and you suspect it is negatively impacting the quality of patient care. Use Kotter's Eight-Step Plan for Integrating Change to guide you through each step of the change project.
