Assignment Overview
This assignment requires students to evaluate different business research methods used in organisational decision-making. Students will analyse how research methods are applied in real business contexts and assess their strengths, limitations, and suitability.
The emphasis is on critical evaluation, not on developing a full research proposal.
Assignment Task
Students are required to work individually to:
- Select a business problem
- Review existing studies
- Evaluate the research methods used
Students are NOT required to design their own research proposal.
Assignment Instruction
Students will complete the following steps:
- Identify a Business Problem
- Select a real or realistic business issue – Clearly explain the context
- Justify why the issue requires research
- Select Relevant Journal Articles
- Choose at least four academic journal articles
- Ensure they are relevant to the selected problem
- Extract Research Method Information For each article, identify:
- Research approach (qualitative / quantitative / mixed)
- Research design (exploratory / descriptive / experimental)
- Sampling technique
- Sample size and target population
- Data collection method
- Evaluate the Research Methods (CORE PART) For each study, evaluate:
- Appropriateness of research approach
- Strengths of the research design – Limitations of the method used
- Suitability of sampling technique
- Quality of data collection
- Compare Across Studies
- Identify similarities and differences
- Evaluate which method is more effective
- Justify your evaluation
- Link to Decision-Making
- Explain how research findings support business decisions – Evaluate usefulness of each method in practice
