It seems that we have little privacy left in the modern era. We are constantly under video surveillance. Much of our personal information is available on the internet. We can be tracked by our cell phones. And thanks to satellite technology we can’t even find privacy in our own backyards.

Hello all,

The lack of privacy today does concern me.

To begin, social media has made it easier than ever to stay connected with others. The downside to this is when you have someone you do not want to have access to you, there are limited options. People will post where they are, what they are doing, who they are with, and give little to no thought about what someone with bad intentions could do with that information.

Phishing emails are also getting better and less conspicuous. Some are still extremely easy to spot, but others will masquerade as businesses with very convincing emails, text messages, and even job listings.

Thanks to doorbell cameras, dashcams, and even your Alexa or Siri devices, every conversation you have is being monitored. Your own cell phone will listen to things you say and then show you ads for those items.

At the risk of sounding like I am wearing a tin foil hat, I have sometimes thought of a movie I have not seen in a while, not spoken it aloud and moved on with my day. A couple of days later that very movie will be on my Amazon Fire TV advertised as free to watch for a limited time. I do not believe we have all been microchipped or anything, but I do think that all these systems listen to the things you say and places you go, and they use that data to formulate your patterns and guess your desires and wants.

I am concerned that this will only get worse as AI becomes stronger.
