Professional nursing organizations are integral in nursing and collective entities for nurses. They help provide nurses with the opportunity to influence nursing practice, education, and health policy (Chiu et al., 2021). As an aspiring nurse, I would love to be affiliated with two professional nursing organizations: American Nursing Association (ANA) and National League for Nursing (NLN). ANA is an organization that aims to advance the nursing profession by ensuring high standards of nursing practice, promoting a safe and ethical working environment, fostering the health and overall wellness of nurses, and advocating for health issues affecting patients and the community (About ANA, 2017). On the other hand, the NLN is an association that serves as a voice for the nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education (About the National League for Nursing, n.d.). Joining ANA would require me to have a registered nurse degree and a nurse practicing license in the United States of America. Thus, the only certification needed is a Bachelor’s degree and licensure. However, I will need additional certifications to qualify and join the NLN: Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and Certified Clinical Academic Nurse Educator. In this regard, I will need to expand my knowledge and career to become a practicing nurse and a nurse educator with the abovementioned certifications to qualify for the NLN.
Lastly, the TEACH values that I think are most integral and would benefit my work environment are collaboration and the ability to handle many people. Collaboration helps in creating a positive and supportive working climate. The ability to handle many people is the foundation for collaborative and teamwork practices. I would be a role model in incorporating the selected TEACH values into the work environment.
