Reflection Paper

Students must complete one Reflection Paper, which must be submitted electronically through Turn-It-In for plagiarism checking. All submissions that do not go through Turn-It-In (e.g., email) will not be accepted and will receive a zero. Please do not copy & paste texts from the internet, textbook, or lecture slides. Could you paraphrase instead?

Content requirements: This assignment aims to demonstrate their ability to recognize and interpret how weather and climate manifest in various landscape settings, drawing from text and lecture material. Therefore, for the reflection paper, students must select a weather event or climate issue from a list provided by the instructor and write about it. Students must write their articles in formal essays and in a way that demonstrates their understanding of the weather and climate subjects presented in textbook chapters and lectures up to when the papers are due. Writings must follow this line to receive a high score.

In writing, students must:

  • Let me know what the writing is about, why it is relevant to weather and climate, and why you are interested in sharing it with others.
  • Explain the scientific process that creates weather events or climate issues. The explanation should be detailed enough to show that you understand the subject. For example, an answer like “rain is because of clouds” is not good because it is too vague and does not demonstrate your understanding of how rain is formed. To write this section successfully, read and comprehend the textbook chapters and perhaps internet resources.
  • Discuss how such an event/issue may affect human beings and vice versa. Students must include data/pieces of evidence/examples to support their arguments. So that you know, the citation must be provided.
  • Post, in a minimum word count of 800 without references, an essay  detailed enough to showcase your knowledge and mastery of your selected subject matter
  • Must include relevant references along with the specific pages or websites of the sources.

You must limit your choice of topics to the ones listed in the syllabus.

  • Tornadoes: clouds, strong wind, rain, hail.
  • Hurricane or cyclone: strong wind, heavy rain.
  • Blizzard: heavy snow, ice, cold temperatures.
  • Dust storm: strong winds, arid conditions.
  • Hail storm: cold or warm temperatures, rain, ice
  • Global warming and Climate Change -to include topics like  causes, effects, and solutions, along with a critical review of contentious policy debates

Additional important notes:

1. Please review the syllabus and rubric for this assignment to learn how to write this paper successfully.

2. ABSOLUTELY NO copy & paste texts will be accepted.

3. Your writing must be clear and straightforward enough for a high-school student, not a weather and climate expert, to understand.

4. ADDITIONALLY,  MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT "COPY AND PASTE"  ANY AI OR ANY OTHER SEARCH ENGINE-GENERATED PAPER. YOUR REFERENCES MUST BE SPECIFIC and INCLUDE YOUR SOURCES, along with the page # #s if text-based or the URLs of any website you consulted and used in your report.  YOUR REFERENCES MUST BE VERIFIABLE as outlined below.

Submission Requirements:

2. Citations

  • utilize the APA-styled in-text citation system for all references
  • including the author's name and year of publication
  • At the end of your paper, create a  full reference list that includes the author's name, the title, and page #
  • For sources like videos or websites, include the web address
  • Ensure that all citations are verifiable

3. Review your references

  • before listing your references, please review them carefully
  • verify that each reference is relevant to the content of your paper.

Failure to abide by these guidelines may cost you up to 10 points.
