Creating Social and Cultural Space To foster engagement in, and recognition of, individual ancestral histories and explore the idea that cultural-identity social groups and improve academic and social quality of life. Students will create a hypothetical cultural-identity-based campus club, uploading: the club proposal, organizational structure, and flyer as a packet (uploaded as a single file) into the assignment submission.

Research and Reflection: What culture, or cultures, do you identify with…where did your ancestors come from, what culture or cultures has your family associated its heritage with? Research your ancestral cultural identity/ies. This could involve exploring traditions, customs, language, cuisine, music, dance, holidays, historical events, and values associated with your culture/s. Reflect on your personal connections to your ancestral culture/s. What aspects of your cultural heritage/s are most meaningful to you? How have these cultural influences shaped your identity and values? Club Proposal (to be included in your packet): Develop a proposal for a hypothetical college cultural club based on your ancestral cultural identity. The proposal should include the purpose, goals, and objectives of the club. You can outline the activities, events, and initiatives that you envision for the club. This could include cultural celebrations, educational workshops, language classes, cooking demonstrations, community service projects, and more. Consider the potential impact and relevance of the club to the broader college community. Club Organizational Structure (to be included in your packet): Outline the organizational structure of the club, including leadership positions, membership criteria, meeting frequency, and decision-making processes. You can also brainstorm ideas for recruiting members, promoting the club, and fostering inclusivity and diversity within the club. Showcasing the Club: Flyer (to be included in your packet): Prepare a flyer that advertises your club and ancestral cultural identity/ies. This includes photos, images, words, and anything that showcases elements of the club and culture. Reflection: What insights did you gain from this activity, what was significant or stood out to you while exploring your ancestral cultural identity/ies and the potential benefits of creating cultural clubs on campus?
