Central Park Five. April 19, 1989. Five young Black defendants are accused and under duress confess to rape of a Central Park jogger in spite of no physical evidence. They subsequently spent between five to thirteen years in jail. An attacker (not of the original five) was later linked to the crime through DNA and the wrongly accused are released, receive a $41 total million-dollar settlement and one becomes a NYC council member.
