The company has governance requirements, but really does not understand how EDM relates to governance, how the IT helps adherence through EDM, and/or what type of governance (elements, definition, framework, etc.) should be considered given the business industry. The data governance discussion will be created in two stages (IP4 and IP5), with the first being a description of governance from peer-reviewed research and how EDM interacts (aids) with governance. It is important to define and encapsulate governance from your research as a framework (like EDM) and map it through the EDM so the executives can understand how EDM can support governance impacting their mandates (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.).

Assignment

Thus far in the creation of a new enterprise content management manual, the foundations of EDM have led to understanding how the data type (variety) influences EDM through a framework (how the data is created, stored, presented, etc.), what IT is involved, and what outcomes could result from this growth in data collection. The next step is to examine governance and what it means within the enterprise context from peer-reviewed articles.

Data governance strives to be “a system of decision rights and accountabilities for information-related processes, executed according to agreed-upon models which describe who can take what actions with what information, and when, under what circumstances, using what methods” (Young and McConkey, 2012, p. 70). This includes management of standards, data quality, privacy and security, and management alignment. The key term is formal management, and for this project, you will help the executives understand what governance is from peer-reviewed works, document the data governance currently in place in your selected organization, and discuss how elements of your EDM influence (support or enhance) governance as a primary motivator for the executives to pursue EDM.

• Update the Enterprise Content Management and Data Governance Policies and Procedures Manual title page with a new date and project name.
• Update the previously completed sections based on instructor feedback.
