“The Impact of Theodore Roosevelt on American History: A Biographical and Historical Analysis”

As the midterm assignment in this course, you will be asked to compose an informative essay/research paper examining an American historical figure from up to the 1870s. Using information from both primary sources and secondary sources, give an overview of your chosen subject’s life and their role in US history. Further details about the requirements for this research paper are given later in this descriiption.
Details
Your essay should do the following:
Describe the biographical details of your chosen figure
Where/when they were born
Family members
Early life details
Education, if any
Major accomplishments
Later life details
Death
Describe the role that your chosen figure played in US history during their lifetime
Describe how your chosen figure is studied and remembered today
Assignment Directions:
Choose a figure in American history
Your subject’s major accomplishments should have occurred after the Civil War
Examples: Theodore Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Cesar Chavez, Michael Jackson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Barack Obama
Find at least 3 primary and 4 secondary sources to use as research materials
Cite your sources using either MLA or Chicago Style
If you are unfamiliar with citation styles, use these guides (MLA Style) (Chicago Style)
Do not cite encyclopedias (Wikipedia, Encyclopedia Britannica, World History Encyclopedia, etc.)
Write your essay
Between 1500 and 2500 words long
This does not include the works cited page
Formatting notes:
Include a title page with your name, the class information, the prompt question you have chosen, and the title of your paper
1-inch margins on all sides
10 to 12-point size text using one of the following fonts: Calibri, Arial, Garamond, Cambria, Times New Roman
Ensure that all text uses the same font size and style
Double-spaced lines, no extra space between paragraphs, only 1 space after a period
First line of each paragraph indented ½ inch
Use a header with page numbers on all pages
For long quotes, use an indented, single-spaced paragraph (a block quote)
Do not forget to include citations or footnotes for sources

Your essay should have an introductory paragraph that gives an overview of the paper
Your essay should have a thesis statement that summarizes the main points of the paper
Your essay should have at least 3 body paragraphs
Each body paragraph should have a distinct and identifiable subject
Each body paragraph should have its own thesis statement that reinforces the main thesis statement of the paper
Your essay should have a concluding paragraph that reinforces the main points of the paper
