Couple and family treatment is commonly mentioned as important to patient improvement and recovery. Research one of the following family or couple treatment method for either adults or adolescents, such as Behavioral Couples Counseling with adults or, for adolescents, one of the following: Family Behavior Therapy, Functional Family Therapy, Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy, Multi-Systemic Family Therapy, or Brief Strategic Family Therapy.
Write a paper that discusses the evidence to support this treatment. Be sure to answer these questions:
How many studies have been about the method?
What were the demographics (age, gender, race, ethnicity, etc.) of patients in these studies?
What are the demographics of the other family members or the partners in these studies?
Who was providing the family or couple treatment (addictions counselors, mental health counselor, psychologist, family therapist, or social worker, etc.; provided within or outside the addiction program, etc.)?
Describe the treatment outcomes: how long were patients followed after treatment ended?
How were the outcomes measured, and what was the time period for follow-up after treatment ended?
In your summary discuss the quality of the evidence. How convincing are the studies that this method is effective?
Your paper should be 4-5 pages and include at least 3 (or more) professional or peer reviewed sources (excluding the online articles and lectures assigned in the course). You can include additional sources that help explain what you discovered. Be sure to cite all non-original material in your narrative, and list your references in APA style.
Use quotations sparingly so that they are no more than 15% of your paper. Work to explain what you discovered in your own words. Do not simply read and cite the abstracts of the papers; be sure to read the entire paper.
