Disorder Project
“I am so sorry to inform you, but your child has blank______________________.”
These are the words that your child’s doctor just said. As a parent, the following thoughts enter your mind: What is this disorder? What caused this disorder? What are the symptoms? How prevalent in this disorder? Is my child going to die? What are some of the hardships my child will encounter? What can I do to help my child physically, emotionally, socially, and educationally? Who can I get help from? Organizations? Is there any type of treatment that can help? Are there any medical advances being made?
You will create a PowerPoint that will help a parent through some of these questions.
Guidelines
Create a PowerPoint or Mix presentation to fully explain your child’s disorder.
Criteria: At least 10 slides – with one slide being the topic page (10 points) and one being the reference page (see below for more information).
Be sure to include the following information:
Definition of disorder, symptoms, cause, and prevalence rates (20 points)
Medical treatments and advances (10 points)
Hardships: physical, psychological/emotional, social, and educational – at least one slide for each hardship (40 points)
Organizations/support groups that can help (10 points)
A picture, if possible, of someone with this disorder (10 points)
Reference page:
3 reputable sites (10 points)
APA format (10 points)
In-text citations (10 points)
Be sure to make this PowerPoint something useful that a parent could use and reference. (10 points)
